She’s taking her love for anime from the cosplay stage to the creator’s chair!

Megan Thee Stallion, the Grammy-winning artist, known for dropping bars and bending genres, just announced that she’s teaming up with The Boondocks executive producer Carl Jones to bring her very own anime series to life, Collider reports. The announcement came during her appearance at DreamCon, the fan-favorite convention that celebrates Black excellence in anime, comics, and gaming. While plot details and the show’s title are still under wraps, Megan teased just enough to send fans into a frenzy: “You ain’t never seen an anime like this ever in your life.”

The show will stream exclusively on Prime Video, and Megan was quick to praise her collaborator. “Shoutout to [Jones]. We really did our thing,” she said. “We took a long time putting this together and it’s finally coming, so you can only imagine how we coming with this anime. Megan Thee Stallion and Carl Jones? What the hell!”

For fans who have followed her journey, this collaboration isn’t a surprise; it’s a long time coming. Megan Thee Stallion’s love for anime isn’t a gimmick or passing phase. It’s deeply personal. From rocking Sailor Moon fits to sampling the Jujutsu Kaisen soundtrack in her single “Otaku Hot Girl,” she’s consistently shown love for the art form, Vibe reports. In a previous interview with Crunchyroll, she said it plainly: “I’m half anime character, half rapper.”

Her lyrics, visuals, and style reflect that fusion. The track “Mamushi,” featuring Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba, was filmed in Tokyo with an all-Japanese cast and crew. The music video paid homage to Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film Dreams and prioritized authenticity over aesthetics. Megan didn’t just borrow from Japanese culture; she immersed herself in it. The result is a visual and sonic experience that resonated with fans on both sides of the globe.

Even her anime-themed streetwear capsule, launched with Crunchyroll in 2020, was rooted in a genuine connection. That same year, she spoke candidly of her connection to anime characters: “You grow with the character. You see all the trials and tribulations they go through. Then you meet new people along the way who help them become the person he needs to be. I apply that to my life a lot.”

Now, that life and the journey she’s walked through fame, hardship, growth, and self-discovery may be woven into this upcoming series. While Billboard speculates that the anime could follow a fictionalized version of her life or music career, Megan has yet to confirm the storyline. Still, fans can expect something that’s true to her evolution, her grit, and her glow-up.

With Carl Jones in the mix, known for creating culturally defining moments through The Boondocks, and Megan Thee Stallion at the helm of the narrative, this series promises to push boundaries, both in anime and in representation. It’s not just about Black girls loving anime anymore. It’s about Black girls creating anime.

In a world where fandoms often feel gatekept, Megan’s presence in the genre is an invitation for girls who dream in vibrant colors, for creators who don’t see themselves in the medium yet, and for fans who’ve been waiting to feel seen.

So get your watchlist ready and your cosplay ideas queued. A new era of anime is on the horizon, and it’s unapologetically hot girl.
