Netflix Acquires The Rights To Multiple Black Sitcoms Including ‘Moesha’ and ‘Girlfriends’

Get ready to binge watch until November!

Netflix just announced that they’ve picked up many of our favorite Black sitcoms under their “Strong Black Lead” umbrella. 

According to Deadline, the streaming giant has added seven Black comedies to the “Strong Black Lead” lineup including Moesha, Girlfriends, Sister, Sister, The Parkers, The Game, One on One and Half & Half, purchasing the rights to the latter three.

Moesha will kick off the new editions, available for streaming August 1st, followed by seasons 1-3 of The Game, debuting August 15th. Sister, Sister will be available September 1st, Girlfriends on September 11th, marking the 20th anniversary of its original debut, The Parkers on October 1st, and Half & Half and One on One premiering October 15th. 

Netflix announced the big news with a PSA from cast members of the hit shows. Bradley Edwards, Manager, Content Acquisition at Netflix and Jasmyn Lawson, Manager, “Strong Black Lead” at Netflix both said that subscribers had been petitioning for the iconic shows for some time now.
