August 30, 2019

This past weekend, Director Ryan Coogler and Marvel President Kevin Feige, announced a release date for Black Panther 2.

According to Deadline, the announcement came at the D23 Expo, an annual celebration of the magic of Disney that takes place every other year. Disney is the parent company of Marvel.

Black Panther was a massive Blockbuster hit, becoming the No.4 highest grossing film of all time in the U.S and crossing the billion dollar mark worldwide. It won three Oscars including one for Ruth E. Carter’s costume design, and another for Hannah Beachler’s production design, making them the first African Americans to ever win those awards.

Coogler will be returning to spearhead and write the sequel along with many of the original cast members. Although we don’t know for sure who is or isn’t returning, or if Killmonger is actually resting at the bottom of the sea, original cast members include Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown, Forest Whitaker, and Winston Duke.

Black Panther 2 will release on May 6, 2022. Which means we have over two years to get our outfits together!
