Talent clearly runs in the family!
16-year-old Naviyd Raymond, son of R&B legend Usher, is stepping into the music world with the release of his debut single, “Smooth Blues.” Not only did he sing on the track, but he also wrote and produced it himself, taking full creative control from start to finish, RapUp reports.
Naviyd shared that he kept the project a secret, even from his parents, until it was released. He wanted the final product to reflect his true vision without outside influence.
“For my first song, I wanted it to be fully produced and written by me so I could set the standard of my sound and how I truly want it. In a way, I feel like when others produce or write for you, they can’t really capture what u truly know you want. Only you can know that fully,” Naviyd told VIBE.
The release quickly got fans talking. Clips of Naviyd and Usher vibing to the track on TikTok made the rounds online, with many praising the teen’s buttery vocals and laid-back groove. While Usher has made his mark as a global music icon, it’s clear Naviyd is building something that’s uniquely his.
