At Washington University’s 164th Commencement Ceremony, Simone Biles took the stage, offering words of encouragement and wisdom to the graduating class of 2025. The most decorated gymnast of all time was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, officially becoming Dr. Biles.

“The world doesn’t need you to be perfect,” Biles told the graduates. “It needs you to be bold, to care, and to keep going even when things don’t go as planned. So go out there and write your own story — one that only you can tell.”
Biles was honored alongside other notable figures, including actress and Washington native Jennifer Lewis, who also spoke at the ceremony. The university welcomed both icons with a spirited, Jennifer Hudson-inspired “spirit tunnel” celebration.
