It doesn’t cost anything to be kind!
A Florida FedEx worker is being applauded for going the extra mile to sanitize a package he was delivering to a family of a child with an autoimmune disorder, The Root reports.
The act of kindness was caught on the family’s home camera and the girl’s mother, Carrie Blasi, was the first to praise the FedEx worker. “We have a sign on our door for packages/mail as our 11-year-old daughter is a Type 1 Diabetic. Our Federal Express delivery guy wrote this on our box: ‘I sanitized your box once I seen the note on your door’ – and you can tell that he used sanitizer wipes on the box. Amazing!!,” Blasi tweeted out.

In the video, which has since been uploaded to Youtube, the driver is seen approaching the home with the package before stopping to read the sign. He then doubles back to his car and returns to sanitize the package with wipes before leaving the message for the family. A friend of the drivers reached out to Blasi to connect the two after seeing the video go viral.
Blasi said the two were able to talk via video and connected through their daughters, who are both at a higher risk of contracting the virus. “He is such a good-natured man. If everyone would follow in his footsteps…act of true kindness…there is hope!,” said Blasi.
Unfortunately, despite the good deeds of delivery workers and the sacrifice they’re making by risking their lives during this pandemic, many of them still aren’t receiving very basic protections. FedEx workers in particular, as of April 2nd, have yet to receive cleaning or sanitizing supplies. They also don’t receive health insurance, hazard pay, or additional sick leave as a result of them being contract workers. While the odds of virus transmission as a result of delivery workers seems to be low, it is still important to be cautious and do our best to protect those working on the front lines.
If they can go the extra mile for us, we should all step up to go the extra mile for them.
Shout out to this Florida FedEx workers and all the essential workers risking their lives during these times. You are appreciated.
