If there’s one thing Oprah‘s going to do, it’s surprise her fans!
She decided to invite a young fan named Rosie to The Color Purple premiere. A couple of months ago, the 8-year-old girl went viral for recreating the dinner scene from 1985’s The Color Purple all by herself. Oprah admitted that the scene was a part of the movie even seasoned actors struggled with. However, that didn’t stop Rosie from playing all the characters, including Celie, Sofia, Squeak, Harpo, Shug Avery, and Mister perfectly.
Oprah commented on the viral video, “Brava! Bravo! Brava Brava! I hope the strikes are resolved and there is a Color Purple premiere celebration. If that happens, you MUST come as my guest! Standing O from me to you.” Luckily for Rosie, the strikes are over, and she will be able to attend the premiere. Oprah surprised her with the news on video. Rosie and her mom, Kenya White, joined a video call without a clue that Oprah was on the line.
“We know that Oprah’s true to her word,” Kenya said to the video producer on the phone before Oprah was added to the call. “We’re not worried about that.”
“Oprah’s true to her word,” she called out as a greeting. “I saw you, Miss Rosie, and all of your wonderful portrayals,” Oprah began. “The whole dinner table scene, which is the hardest scene in the movie to do…. When I did it years ago, it took us three days to do that scene—and you nailed it!”
The dinner scene is Rosie’s favorite part of the movie. “People are saying you’ve already given an Academy Award–winning performance,” Oprah said of the reenactment video. So, because of that, Oprah decided to also gift her a shopping spree to get dressed in purple for the red carpet.
Oprah added, “It’s real. It’s happening.”
