He made sure his mother got her flowers on draft night!
When V.J. Edgecombe heard his name called as the 3rd overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, it wasn’t just a win for him, it was a victory for his entire family. The 19-year-old Bahamas native and Baylor standout made history that night, but it was the emotional moment he shared with his mother that truly touched hearts.
As his dream became reality, Edgecombe’s mother was seen wiping away tears, overwhelmed by pride and memories of the journey it took to get there. And during his interview with Taylor Rooks, V.J. couldn’t hold back his emotions as he reflected on the sacrifices she made to keep their family going.

“Long nights, long nights,” he said through tears. “I lived off a generator for seven years. No electricity. And seeing what she went through to feed us? It’s crazy. It’s crazy. I don’t even know, my mind is everywhere right now.”
Congratulations to the entire Edgecombe family!
