This classic album has garnered three decades of accolades!

On February 24, 1998, Lauryn Hill made history at the 41st annual GRAMMY awards, setting the record for the most nominations for a female artist in one night with 10 nominations. Hill was the first woman to take home five trophies in one night including Best New Artist and Album of the year for her solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, the first time a hip-hop or neo soul artist would take home the gold in either category.

Nearly 30 years after that historic night, The Recording Academy continues to honor Hill’s record breaking, history-making contribution by inducting Miseducation into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame.

Following a two-year hiatus from inducting new honorees–during which the Hall of Fame was under reevaluation–the Recording Academy announced 10 new inductees for the 2024 class on March 20. Among the musicians being celebrated alongside Lauryn Hill are other other Black artists whose albums contributed to music history including De La Soul, Charley Pride, Kid Ory’s Creole Orchestra, William Bell, and the disco diva Donna Summer and her album, I Feel Love, which features her hit single, “Last Dance.”

The GRAMMY Hall of Fame celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and has undergone several changes since its inception. The 10 inductees for the 2024 class is a significantly lower number compared to past years where up to 35 artists were recognized. And this is the first year that all the artists and albums selected are first time inductees.

This year will also be the first year that honorees will be saluted at the Grammy Museum’s inaugural Grammy Hall of Fame Gala and concert on May 21 at the NOVO Theater in Los Angeles.

“The artists, songwriters, producers, and engineers who composed this year’s inducted recordings are a reflection of the sheer talent and hard work that goes into creating such seminal music,” said Michael Sticka, President/CEO of the GRAMMY Museum. “It’s a privilege to be able to welcome these new additions into our distinguished catalog and celebrate the recordings at our inaugural gala on May 21.”
