Lisa Leslie is officially immortalized in Los Angeles.

The WNBA legend was honored with a statue outside Crypto.com Arena on September 20, becoming the first Los Angeles Sparks player to receive one and only the second WNBA player ever to be honored with a statue by her franchise, the WNBA reports.

The statue captures one of the most defining moments of Leslie’s career: her historic 2002 dunk, when she became the first player to dunk in a WNBA game. The Los Angeles Sparks said the moment helped redefine what was possible in women’s basketball.

But the statue is not only about the dunk.

According to the WNBA, Leslie made sure it reflected the details that made her unmistakably herself, including her signature ponytail, earrings, lipstick, polished nails, and bracelets with her family’s names.

“I wanted to make sure that this statue was a perfect blend of fearlessness and the competitor that I was and I am and I’ll always be,” Leslie said during the unveiling, according to the WNBA.

Leslie spent her entire 12-year WNBA career with the Sparks, helping lead the franchise to back-to-back championships in 2001 and 2002. The Sparks also note that she won three league MVP awards, two Finals MVP awards, four Olympic gold medals, and earned eight First Team All-WNBA selections during her career.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Leslie became the first female professional athlete to receive a statue outside Crypto.com Arena. Her statue now stands alongside some of the city’s most celebrated sports figures, including Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and others.

“I hope they see themselves out there,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “You have to see yourself. If you see it, then you also start to dream and believe that you can be it.”

More than two decades after changing WNBA history with one unforgettable dunk, Lisa Leslie’s legacy is now set in stone.
