Michael Jordan is helping Morehouse College invest in the next generation of Black storytellers.
The Atlanta HBCU celebrated the grand opening of its new Morehouse Multimedia Center on September 23, a state-of-the-art facility funded by a gift from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand, Morehouse College reports.
The center is housed in Morehouse’s Journalism in Sports, Culture, and Social Justice department and will give students hands-on experience in digital storytelling, sports broadcasting, podcasting, filmmaking, and emerging media technologies. CBS Atlanta reports that students will also train with professional equipment and learn from award-winning content creators.
The facility builds on Jordan and Jordan Brand’s 2021 $1 million gift to Morehouse, which the college says was primarily intended to support scholarships and a digital media lab for students studying journalism and sports-related fields.
Morehouse says content created with equipment purchased for the center generated more than 1 million social media views in August 2026 alone.
For the college, the goal goes beyond teaching students how to use cameras, microphones, and editing tools.
Emani Saucier, the center’s inaugural director and co-founder, said the facility is meant to prepare students not only to participate in the future of media, but to help lead it.
The new center also builds on Morehouse’s longstanding journalism program. Morehouse says the program was established in 2007 by filmmaker Spike Lee and the late ESPN columnist Ralph Wiley, then later expanded into the Journalism in Sports, Culture, and Social Justice major.
For students interested in telling stories about sports, culture, and the Black experience, the new center gives them another place to learn, create, and build their voices.
Michael Jordan’s legacy is already cemented on the court. Now, part of that legacy is helping future journalists and creators build stories of their own.
