Kameirah Johnson’s artwork made it all the way to Google’s homepage.

The Seattle teen has been named the 2025-2026 national winner of the Doodle for Google competition for her artwork, Hair Power: The Crown That Grows From Us. Johnson, a senior at Lakeside School, was selected from thousands of student submissions across the country.

Her Doodle centers Black hair as a superpower, showing three Black girls lying in the grass, their crowns resting boldly and beautifully around them.

For Johnson, the piece is personal. She said her superpower is her hair and the family history it carries, with each texture and style holding culture, care, and survival passed down without words.

“Growing up, I saw how Black hair could be a source of creativity, identity, culture and self-expression,” Johnson shared. “I wanted to imagine a world where hair becomes a superpower, something that reflects the unique stories, talents and beauty within each person.”

As the national winner, Johnson’s artwork was featured on Google’s homepage. She will also receive a $55,000 college scholarship, and her school will receive a $50,000 technology package.

In a world where Black hair is too often judged or misunderstood, Kameirah’s Doodle is a beautiful reminder that our crowns have always been powerful.

Congratulations, Kameirah!
