In honor of Black History Month, Lyft will be providing one free ride (up to $10.00) for all app users who intend to visit various museums, memorials, and other sites that are culturally relevant to African and African American experiences. Also included in this promotion will be designated Black-owned businesses.

This month also marks the one-year-anniversary of Lyft’s partnership with Black Girls Code, a nonprofit organization that seeks to increase the numbers of Black girls who pursue careers in technology. Various chapters across the country offer coding classes for girls teaching them basic skills needed to be successful in the technology space and also generate interest in various technology-related roles to better inform their career choices. Lyft’s efforts to support the empowerment of young girls of color has already raised over $350,000. Lyft’s “Round Up and Donate” program will now also allow patrons to round their trip totals up to the nearest dollar and that difference will then be donated to the efforts of Black Girls Code.

In a statement on their website, Lyft shared the following sentiments concerning their efforts this month and overall to encourage diversity and inclusion when considering their services, products, and workforce hiring practices:

“Much has been done, much remains to be done, and Lyft is honored to step up today to do our part to continue building inclusive and more connected communities while helping provide greater opportunity for the leaders of tomorrow.”
