A beautiful full-circle moment!
Country singer Mickey Guyton is making history as the first Black woman to host the ACM Awards, Vibe reports.
Guyton wowed viewers last year with her performance of “What Are You Gonna Tell Her” in a beautiful white gown, crooning out melodic verses while country legend Keith Urban played the piano. Back then, she made history as the first Black woman to perform at the show in its 50+ year history, doing it all while pregnant with her first child. Guyton graced the stage again at this year’s 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, performing her single “Black Like Me” while earning her first Grammy nomination. Now, the country sweetheart will become the first Black woman to host the Academy of Country Music Awards.

“Last year, I had the opportunity to perform at the Academy of Country Music Awards with someone I long admired, Keith Urban, and this year I am incredibly excited to share hosting duties with him. As I’ve said before, ‘if you can see it, you can be it,’ and it’s such an honor to step onto the ACM stage as the first-ever Black woman to host the show,” Guyton said.
In addition to her hosting duties, Guyton will also be performing at this year’s award show and is nominated for ACM’s New Female Artist of the Year award. She will co-host alongside Urban and is the first Black person to host the award show since Charley Pride was hosted in 1984.

Guyton spoke about the importance of this moment and what it means to her, saying, “Over the years, the Academy of Country Music has always been a home for me through opportunities both onstage and throughout their work on diversity and inclusion. This is a moment of great significance for me, and I am so thrilled to share it with all the fans.”
The 56th Academy of Country Music Awards aired Sunday, April 18th, on CBS live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN.
