It can’t be Women’s History Month without some Black girl magic!
Shannon “Boo” Jackson is an Omaha native that is well known in her town for giving back. After securing her barbers license almost ten years ago she’s made it her mission to care for the people in her community through her haircuts. Every year Jackson provides free back-to-school cuts for students and volunteers at the homeless shelter.
The 31-year-old opened Omaha’s first Black, woman-owned barbershop, Heavi Hitters, in 2019. Now the shop has grown and expanded to a new location on 65th and Maple. This barbershop caters to all types of beauty. With options of hair and cosmetic services like wigs, locs, makeup, tattoos, and more. Hairstylist Ayanna Carfield spoke to KETV about the impact they’re having in the community, “Seeing that they feel completely different from when they first came in, like I can have somebody come in and have the worst day ever. But once they come out of my chair, they feel completely different, like a whole new person.”

The secret ingredient to their success and expansion could also be accredited to the sisterhood within the shop. Heavi Hitters hairstylist Latoria Neal said, “We all grew together, like a sisterhood with each other, like, this is my family.”
