The word magic doesn’t imply unreal, or effortless. When the word magic follows Black girl it serves as an amplifier to all the amazing things that Black girls and women have and will accomplish. Here are a few examples of women who have made their own Black girl magic.
Rosa Parks displayed her Black girl magic when she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger in 1955. Her act of civil disobedience went on to help spark the civil rights movement.
Althea Gibson displayed her Black girl magic when she became the first African American to win Wimbledon.
Katherine Johnson displayed her Black girl magic when she calculated the flight trajectory for the first human trip to the moon.
Shirley Chisholm displayed her Black girl magic when she became the first African American Congresswoman and the first woman and African American to run for the nomination of a major political party for President of the United States.
Mae Jemison displayed her Black girl magic when she became the first African American woman to travel to space.
