Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks is back with not one, but two comedy series airing on BET platforms. His breakout hit Churchy, which he co-executive produced alongside his wife, Melissa Fredericks, under their KevOnStage Studios banner, first premiered on BET+ last year. The series follows a young man who, after being passed over to lead his father’s mega-church, heads to a rural town to build a ministry of his own. During its debut week, Churchy became the most-watched scripted comedy on BET+. Its success on streaming led to a cable run on BET, where it reached an even wider audience.
Now, Fredericks has announced that Churchy is officially returning for Season 2 on August 21. And he’s not stopping there. BET has also greenlit a brand-new series from Fredericks called The Hospital.
Set in what’s being described as “the most incompetent medical facility in the country,” the sketch comedy show takes aim at healthcare absurdity with a dose of improv and a heavy prescription of satire. The Hospital is set to premiere September 10.
From building his own studio to creating original series with a loyal fanbase, Fredericks is using every platform to open new doors, not just for himself, but for other creators too.
