Their hard work has paid off!
A pair of east London twins have received exemplary grades, getting accepted to Oxford and Cambridge universities, the BBC reports.
Emmanuel and Ebenezer Boakye are students at Mossbourne Community Academy in London’s borough of Hackney. Before graduation, the twins received top grades and honors, both getting a combined six A*s and one A. Now, the two have been accepted to two prestigious universities, Oxford and Cambridge.
“[I’m] not really processing…It’s not really sunk in yet,” Emmanuel told reporters of his reaction to the accomplishment. The 18-year-olds were raised in a single-parent household by their mom, Victoria Genfi, and they credit her as one of their strongest supporters.
“We’ve always had people in our corner, our mum and the school, supporting and pushing us to do it,” Emmanuel said.
“I can’t put into words how proud I am or how wonderful they are…We’ve come a long way. I believe that no matter what background you come from if you push your children and support them through everything, they can achieve anything,” Genfi said.
Initially, the two had planned to attend Cambridge together, but that changed when Emmanuel participated in an Oxford University African Caribbean Society event. Now, Emmanuel will attend Oxford to study English literature with Ebenezer at Cambridge, learning Spanish and Russian. Despite the two attending different universities, the duo has agreed that there will be no sibling rivalry. More importantly, their mother said she plans to deliver home-cooked meals to both sons once a month, alternating between the schools.
Since the COVID pandemic shutdown, students have shown growth, 36.5% of students in London achieving top grades. A-level grades for students in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are currently at a record high, with 44.8% of students getting A* or A grades.
The Boakye twins have promised to pursue their studies and “make their mum proud.”
