Grandma is eating us up with every single look!
An NYC-based stylist named Dee, who goes by the brand @TheVintagePoint_ on Instagram, has recently gone viral for her new content series highlighting her elderly grandmother, Margret Chola. It began last year when Dee had the bright idea to style her grandmother for an impromptu photo shoot. Surprisingly, the matriarch, whose age is unknown, agreed and Dee began documenting her beloved Grandma Chola, going viral in the process.
“Today last year I convinced my almost 90 or maybe more years old Granny, cuz we don’t know how old she is, my mom’s mother to switch clothes with me and have a shoot to my surprise, she was up for the idea. This by far has been the highlight of my career, I will forever cherish these special moments,” Dee wrote in one post.
The posts began to gain traction, garnering tens of thousands of likes on social media. So Dee decided to create a dedicated page for her “Granny Series,” posting the beloved elder almost weekly in striking fashions shot in her home country of Zambia. Grandma Chola can be seen in ornate garbs, boasting bold colors and prints, elaborate jewelry, and the latest fashion-forward accessories.
Dee has been in Zambia remodeling her grandmother’s old home into her own personal villa. She posts regular updates about when the next photo drops, fulfills her grandmother’s every fashion desire and has even begun to sell merch with her grandmother’s image on it. When she’s not in Zambia, she styles her grandmother remotely for her lewks. Grandma Chola has become such an internet sensation that Dee is now hosting a New York exhibition this June showcasing some of Grandma Chola’s most famous art and other unreleased works. There will also be 5 autographed t-shirts and unreleased prints for sale.
While Grandma Chola has more years behind her than ahead, Dee is acutely aware of how important it is to honor her and showcase her story and beauty to the world. This past Mother’s Day, she penned a sweet letter to her beloved “Mbuya,” captioning a picture of her grandmother on the family farm donned in a snakeskin two-piece with tulle, Prada tie, and red futuristic glasses.
“My Mothers Mother is the reason I’m here all she endured growing up was so I could be born. Thank you Mbuya, I love you forever you are special and now I’m sharing you with the world,” wrote Dee.
The “Legendary Glamma Exhibition” will take place June 30th in The Bronx, New York, from 12 pm to 6 pm EST. To purchase your tickets, click here.
