There’s nothing like a father’s love!

The Kansas City Chief’s star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, is headed to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row. After defeating the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, this makes Mahomes’ fourth Super Bowl appearance in his first seven seasons, something he says he doesn’t take for granted at all.

“You don’t take it for granted. You never know how many you’re going to get to or if you’re going to get to any. It truly is special just to do it with these guys after what we’ve been through all season long. Guys coming together, it really is special. But I told them the job’s not done. Our job now is to prepare ourselves to play a good football team in the Super Bowl and try to get that ring,” he told reporters.

But for the 2x Super Bowl-winning quarterback, greatness runs in his family, and this level of excellence is par for the course. There on the field to celebrate his back-to-back Super Bowl appearances was Patrick Mahomes Sr., a former major league baseball star. Mahomes Sr. played for the MLB from 1992 to 2003, pitching for several teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Chicago Cubs, US Weekly reports.

The Texas native says that while his son has always played sports, he thought he’d have the most potential in baseball, following in his father’s footsteps.

“He grew up in the clubhouse, he was always around the game, and he was always the best player on his baseball team. He was an unbelievable shortstop, he always led his team in hitting, and he threw 97 mph on the mound, so I always thought he was gonna be a baseball player,” Mahomes Sr. previously told the LA Times.

Nonetheless, Mahomes did take notes and has done it his own way. Something his dad said he’s extremely proud of. Mahomes Sr. was on the sidelines again this year, enjoying a post-game cigar and singing his son’s praises after the AFC championship win. Now, Mahomes will attempt to become only the fifth quarterback in NFL history to win three Super Bowls.

“I told y’all you know he’s different…I’ve known from, like I said, since he was four years old, I knew he was something different. He was something special,” Mahomes Sr. told Fox Sports Radio

Last year, Mahomes Sr. was caught in a warming embrace as he affirmed his son, reminding him of his greatness. This year was no different, this time the elder Mahomes approached by reporters for his own post-game interview.

“I’m very excited, man! Going back to another Super Bowl is more than anybody could even imagine, so I’m just happy…I’m always proud of him. I was proud of him before he started playing football. He makes me even more proud that he’s doing the things that he’s doing… We’re going for three, and then we’re going to go for four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine.”
