Wisconsin has a new queen. She’s Black, she’s beautiful and her name is Willow Newell.

The 22-year-old Racine native just became the first Black woman ever crowned Miss Wisconsin, breaking barriers and shining bright in a space that hasn’t always made room for faces like hers.

Representing as Miss Racine, Newell claimed the title during Saturday night’s statewide competition, standing out among 29 contestants and securing $13,000 in scholarships along with the crown.

And for the talent portion, she made a statement, effortlessly belting out a powerhouse rendition of “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls. And true to the lyrics, she didn’t.

According to News 3 Now, Newell has been competing in the Miss America Opportunity since 2017, beginning as a teen contestant. Now. She’s headed to Miss America 2026 in Orlando this September — bringing her story, voice and vision to the national stage.
